The houses
Queen Village runs from Lombard Street to Washington Avenue and from the Delaware River to 6th Street. It is part of old Southwark, Philadelphia’s first suburb, incorporated into the city in 1854.
What to know about pointing here
On narrow blocks, scaffolding for a front facade usually sits on the sidewalk, which needs a Streets Department permit applied for at least 10 business days ahead. Rear walls may only be reachable through a neighbor’s yard. Many older rowhouses have thin butter joints, which the Rowhouse Manual says should be raked out by hand. Check whether your block is on the historic register before work starts.
